PIÚVA-ROSA PROJECT FOR THE CONSERVATION OF PRIVATE RESERVES IN THE PANTANAL

back

Institution Responsible: Fundação Pró Natureza – Funatura

The Project aims to contribute to the reduction of deforestation, protecting private areas in the Pantanal located in areas relevant to the conservation of this biome.

The initiative will act along two lines of action: the creation of RPPNs and the elaboration of Management Plans for the RPPNs. Five properties were selected to create new reserves totaling approximately 26,000 hectares.

For the preparation of management plans, five reserves will be considered: RPPN Neivo Pires I and II (119.49 and 320 ha), dedicated to conservation and tourism, RPPN Fazenda Alegria (1,100 ha) and Poleiro Grande (27,000 ha), created exclusively for the conservation of the Pantanal’s biodiversity, and the RPPN SESC Pantanal (110,000 ha), considered a reference in the region.

By enabling the creation of 5 new RPPNs and the preparation of Management Plans for another 5, the project supports 10 RPPNs, contributing to the protection of approximately 165,000 hectares located in strategic areas for the conservation of the Pantanal.
