back

Institution Responsible: Instituto Onçafari

With the objective of elaborating and initiating the execution of the Management Plan of the RPPN Pata da Onça – Santa Sophia Farm, located in the municipality of Aquidauana – Mato Grosso do Sul, with an area of 7,387 hectares of conservation in the Pantanal biome, the project aims to define minimum criteria for the characterization of the territory, emphasizing the biotic, physical, socioeconomic, and legal-institutional aspects.

Following the state model (IMASUL) for planning Protected Areas, such an assessment will subsidize the elaboration of zoning and management, monitoring, and tourism programs, backed by participatory planning and shared between the Government and civil society. Divided into four major parts, the project intends to generate the following products:

1-Elaboration of the overall characterization of the RPPN, with the collection of materials and information about the RPPN through consultation with interested parties in a participatory workshop;

2-Carrying out primary and secondary studies to collect physical and biological data on the RPPN;

3-Elaboration of planning and definition of the RPPN’s zoning; and

4- Carrying out a workshop to present the Management Plan.

At the end of the project, we want to achieve a management plan compatible with sustainable use and occupation activities, as well as achieve a future monitoring methodology to assess the conservation of the ecological corridor established.
