Managing Institution: Association of Rural Settlement Areas in the State of Maranhão – ASSEMA

The Development Plan for the Free Babassu Consortium, with a projected duration of 24 months, aims to strengthen the governance of the babassu territory to promote sustainable use of the forest. The initiative includes integrating consortia production arrangements, providing environmental education training, adopting best socio-productive practices, and establishing commercial partnerships. The plan encompasses partner organizations in two states (Maranhão and Tocantins) and 17 municipalities.

The goal is to enhance the capabilities of women in governance, help raise funds, and promote sustainable production practices such as agroforestry systems and sustainable babassu management, positively impacting over 500 people. The proposal seeks to integrate productive and commercial activities, increase raw material production, upgrade processing facilities, and add value to babassu to meet market standards and diversify the range of finished products.
